Validate the Updated Design

Run a simulation process to perform a simulation and validate your updated design.

After making the design update, you would like to test that the updated part passes a predefined validation specification. You will use a simulation process to run a basic simulation that has been developed to validate the sprocket.

  1. From the Compass, select Station Launcher to start a local station on your machine.
Station Launcher opens in a new window. A station can be configured in Station Administration by someone with the Administrator access role.
  2. In the Design Engineer Workflow dashboard, select the Validate tab.
  3. In Project Planning, escalate the Validate new design task from To Do to In Progress.
Updating your status on this task will notify your team members that you are starting your task.
  4. Open the Validate new design task, and drag the Elevator_Drive_Scenario attachment to Simulation Review.

This will allow you to view the existing simulation to compare results after you run the validation process.

  5. Drag Sprocket_Validation_Template from the Validate new design task to Performance Study.

You can also access Sprocket_Validation_Template from My Simulations.

  6. Click Done to load the simulation process template.
  7. Run the job.

This runs a part validation simulation process that was developed by a domain expert. Performance Study allows you to run and monitor the simulation process.

  8. Once the job completes, select the Input/Output tab in Performance Study.
  9. Verify that the simulation passes the validation:

    Check that Maximum_VonMisesStress_1 is below 5 x 106 N/m2 and Maximum_Displacement_1 is below 0.003 mm.

  10. Drag Sprocket_Validation from 3DSpace to Simulation Review.

This simulation ran as a part of the simulation process in Sprocket_Validation_Process. You can visualize the results of the simulation from your dashboard with Simulation Review.
