Setup

Import data and set up your preferences to complete this example.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Ensure that each person that will participate in this example can access the same collaborative space.

Import Data

You can download the data required to complete this example, and then upload it to a collaborative space for your team to access. Only one person completing this example needs to complete this task.

Your team will use one collaborative space to store objects when completing this example. Using a shared collaborative space ensures that each team member can access the correct, up-to-date data required to complete each stage of the example.

  1. Download the following files from the Dassault Systèmes Knowledge Base article, Sample Data: Dashboard Creation and Use in an Engineering Workflow.

    • Sprocket_Validation_Template_-.3dxml
    • Getting Started on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.pdf

  2. Connect to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using a web client.
  3. Import Getting Started on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.pdf.
    1. From your collaborative space, click , then click Add Content .
    2. Specify the location of Getting Started on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.pdf.
  4. Connect to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using a native client.
  5. From the collaborative list in the top bar, select the collaborative space that you will use for the example.
  6. Import Sprocket_Validation_Template_-.3dxml.
    1. From the top bar, select Add > Import.
    2. Specify the location of the 3D XML file in the Filename field.
    3. From the Options, select As New.
    4. Enter a prefix in the Duplication string field.

Note: The objects that you import will include this string as a prefix to their names, which makes it easier to find files in the database. In the steps of this example, the names of objects will not include a prefix.

    5. Click OK.
  7. Similarly, import Getting Started on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.pdf.

Enable Parameters in the Feature Tree

Set your 3DEXPERIENCE platform display preferences to view and access parameters in the tree. Only Darcy Design Engineer and Sam Simulation Analyst need to complete this task. These display preferences make the parameters available when you edit the part or assembly.

Before you begin: Connect to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using a native client.
  1. From the top bar, select Me > Preferences, and then click the Common Preferences tab.
  2. Expand Object Properties > 3D Shape, and select Display.
  3. From the Preference Pages section, expand 3D Shape Infrastructure.
  4. From the Display in Tree section, select Parameters and Relations.
  5. Accept the other default selections, and click Apply.
  6. From the Preference Categories section, click the App Preferences tab.
  7. Expand 3D Modeling > Multi Discipline Automated Engineering, and then click Basics.
  8. From the Preference Pages section, expand Parameters & Relations.
  9. In the Parameters tree view section, select Display values and Display formulas.
  10. Click OK.
Your preferences are applied to the current session and persist the next time you open the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Now that you have set up the example, the domain experts can create workflow dashboards for the team to use for their daily tasks.
