Apply Inlet/Outlet Flow Conditions

Apply flow conditions at the duct openings.

Applying boundary conditions to a fluid domain facilitates the flow of the fluid through or around the model. Common types of boundary conditions include hydrostatic pressure, free streams, intake or exhaust fans, inlet velocities, and outlet pressures.

The duct has two openings. In this example, you apply a velocity condition at the inlet of 5 m/s and a pressure condition at the outlet of 0 N/m2. These two boundary conditions prescribe the airflow between the duct openings.

  1. From the Boundaries section of the Assistant, click Velocity Inlet .
  2. Select Opening.1 as the support.

Tip: You can select Opening.1 either by clicking its blue circular glyph in the 3D area or by clicking its name under the Abstractions node in the tree.

  3. Enter 5m_s in the Velocity field, and click OK.
  4. From the Boundaries section of the Assistant, click Pressure Outlet .
  5. Select Opening.2 as the support, and click OK.
