Create the Simulation

Create the simulation by first importing the model into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and then opening the model in the appropriate app.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Download the model from the Dassault Systèmes Knowledge Base article, Sample Data: Linear Dynamic Analysis of a Printed Circuit Board.

Import the File into the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

  1. Open a native client on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

The technique that you use to open a native client depends on your installation and environment. For example, you can open a client from a desktop shortcut or from an email invitation to a 3DDashboard.

For more information, see Getting Started.

  2. Import the model into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform by doing the following:
    1. From the top bar, select Add > Import....
    2. Specify the Location and the Filename of the 3D XML file.
    3. Expand the Options section, and select As New.
    4. Enter your name in the Duplication string field.

The object that you import includes this string as a prefix to its name, which makes it easier to find your file in the database.

    5. Click OK.
  3. In the Operation Report dialog box, click OK.
  4. From the Navigation section of the action bar, click Open Advanced .
  5. From the Representations section, select With all representations, and click OK.

This option ensures that the imported model includes its existing finite element model representations.

The 3D area displays the printed circuit board model.

Initialize the Simulation

  1. From the Compass, click Structural Scenario Creation.
  2. Select Structural as the simulation type, and click OK.
    The app creates a simulation.
  3. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Simulation Properties .
  4. Enter PCB_BasicLinearDynamics as the Title, and click OK.

Renaming your simulation allows you to identify it easily when you search for it.

  5. Select Share > Save > Save All, and save your work.

Tip: You can also press Ctrl+S to save your work. Save your work often.
