Using Autoname

You can automatically generate names for new designs while saving using the CAD Model AutoName Series and CAD Drawing AutoName Series.

The availability of autoname options depends on the preferences set by the Integration Administrator.

Before you begin: The Autoname series for each type must be set in 3DEXPERIENCE Save Options dialog box. See Setting Save Options.
  1. In the 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box, right-click any design with a status of New and click Autoname.
  2. Select a series from the Auto name Series list.
  3. Select Append to the Original Name, to suffix the auto name to the current name separated by Append to the Original Name "_".

There are two auto name series on for “CAD Model” and another for “CAD Drawing”. Auto name series on the dialog box is shown according to the selected documents. For example, if only a drawing is selected for auto name then only “CAD Drawing” will be shown for selection.

  4. Click OK.
The Autoname column is displayed with names assigned to the selected designs as per the autoname series set for each type (CAD Model / CAD Drawing) in the 3DEXPERIENCE Save Options dialog box. The renamed designs are saved in 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and also new name is reflected in CAD session for opened documents.

Note: Auto name for assembly family type objects is not allowed. This is a known limitation.
