Saving Designs

You can save new or modified designs to 3DEXPERIENCE database that is active in the current session using the Active option, or all new or modified designs that is in session using the All option.

The following conditions determine when a design is considered modified and whether the designs will be selected by default in the 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box:

  • Locked by Self: Designs are preselected by default.
  • Unlocked: Designs are preselected by default.
  • Change in Type: Designs are preselected by default.
User preference settings control the behavior of the Save feature. For more details on setting up preferences, see "Setting Preferences" section in Connector for Solid Edge Installation and Administrator's Guide.

Before you begin:

Ensure that the designs you want to save to 3DEXPERIENCE is open in Solid Edge.

  1. From the toolbar, click 3DEXPERIENCE > Save .
The 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box appears.
Warning: An error message is displayed and 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box does not open if there are no changes to be saved in the designs open in Solid Edge.
Tip: If a design is auto recognized, an alert appears in the Alert column for the design. As the auto recognized design is not preselected, you have to select the design to save it. For more information, see About Object Auto Recognition

All the designs open in Solid Edge that are new or modified are listed in the 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box. For each design, the 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box lists,

Note: Component OLE attachments are also displayed along with the modified component in the Save dialog box.
Warning: Drawing file is modified after switching windows and activating it back. The Status column in 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box displays the status as Modified for such designs.
  2. You can enter the following details for saving the design.

    OptionDescription
ScopeUsed to restrict a set of documents for save. Select either of the following option:

Active Document: By default, this option is selected.

All in Session: All documents that are open in Inventor, and documents to which the open document points to are selected for save.

Save toClick to open the Folder selection dialog box. Expand the required workspace or project and select the required workspace or project folder for saving the selected documents, and click OK.
Note: Documents that are already saved in other folders are also saved to the selected folder. Documents are not removed from the old location. The column displays the name of folder assigned to a document. If there are several folders, the additional folders are displayed in the tool tip, when you pause over the cell.
Warning: Save to mxclipboard collection is not supported.
For more information about selecting a workspace, see Selecting a Workspace/Project to Save Designs.
Click to toggle the filter of up-to-date documents. By default, this filter is activated, so that only new and modified documents are listed.
Note: When you toggle off the filter, you can select an up-to-date (unmodified) document for save. If you toggle on the filter after selecting an up-to-date document, the selected document (up-to-date) is listed with modified documents.
View listSelect a table to modify the list of displayed columns and their order in the Save dialog box.
Click to toggle the on/off status of the background save setting.
Click to toggle the iteration creation on and off. You can use this option to overwrite current iterations of documents selected for save instead of creating new iterations. When you activate, a new iteration is created. When you deactivate, current iterations are overwritten. By default, the option is activated.
Note: In baseline behavior, is not available for use.
Retain LockSelect to retain the lock on documents when you save.
Note: In baseline behavior, Retain Lock check box is not available for use.
Delete Local FilesDeletes the local files by using the following options:
    • All
    • Selected
    • None
Retain Lock and Delete Local Files will work exclusively. If you select both the options a warning message appears.
Comments Type the comments for the document. The comments are stored as an attribute in the document.

  3. Click Save when done.

Warning: An error message listing the mandatory attributes mapped by the Administrator in the global configuration object (GCO) of the designs being saved is displayed if the mandatory attributes are not set on the files or their values are Null. These mandatory attributes must be manually updated before saving the designs to 3DEXPERIENCE. The error message displays the exact location to update the attribute. This message is also stored as a text file, MandAttributesError.txt, in the user profile folder.
    Notes:
    • Attributes defined as "mandatory" in the GCO use the value specified in the GCO.
    • Attributes defined as "default" in the GCO use the values specified in the file properties. If no value is specified on the file properties, then the value specified in the GCO is used. Therefore values for such "default" attributes should be defined either on the file or in the GCO.
    • The CAD Attributes dialog is displayed for CAD objects of a certain type, if attribute mapping from CAD to ENOVIA is defined in GCO for that CAD type. If no attributes are defined on the CAD file, then the CAD Attributes dialog box will not display any attribute or its value.
    • Attributes defined as "null" in the GCO use the values specified in the file properties. Therefore values for such "null" attributes must be defined on file.

The selected designs are saved in 3DEXPERIENCE with the options selected for save applied.

Note: For details on behavior changes in Save feature when read-only option is selected, see About Saving in 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
