Behavior Changes - ReadOnly Attribute

There are specific behavior changes in Connector for SOLIDWORKS and X-CAD Design Management features when MCADInteg-FileReadOnlyBehavior is set to TRUE.

This page discusses:

Check-in

The effect on a file from check-in depends on whether or not you select the Keep Checked Out check box in the Check-In dialog box.

If you select the Keep Checked Out check box, the file is writable after the check-in completes.

If you do not select the Keep Checked Out check box, the file remains read-only after the check-in completes.

Check-out

Check-out affects which version of the file the system retrieves and whether or not the file is writeable. Also affecting the file is whether you do the check-out in Connector for SOLIDWORKS or in the Web client, that is, in X-CAD Design Management.

Check-out in Connector for SOLIDWORKS

The effect on the file during check-out is the same in both the SOLIDWORKS view and in the Internet Explorer view.

When you check out a file in Connector for SOLIDWORKS, the server retrieves the latest iteration of the file for editing. If you select Check Out, the Get check box is also selected.

If you click only Get, the server retrieves a read-only copy of the latest iteration of the file.

Check-out in the Web Client

When you check out a file in X-CAD Design Management and choose to clear the Load option in the Check-out page, there are specific behavior changes.

The following behavior changes occur during check-out when the Load option is not selected in the Check-out page:

  • If the user checking out the object has locked the object, X-CAD Design Management makes the corresponding file writeable after downloading it.
  • If the user is checking out a design locked by another person, X-CAD Design Management makes the corresponding file read-only after downloading it.
  • During check-out, if the user selects the Lock option in the Check-out page for an object which is not locked, X-CAD Design Management makes the corresponding file writable after downloading it.
  • If the check-out directory is the RFA directory, no changes are done to the file in the RFA directory.

Lock and Unlock Status

The lock status of a corresponding design object in X-CAD Design Management affects the read-only property of a file.

Update Feature Behavior

The lock status set in X-CAD Design Management affects the write status of a file once you check in a file in Connector for SOLIDWORKS.

When you update a writeable file on a disk that has a lock status in X-CAD Design Management, the system makes the file read-only.

When you update a file that is read-only on disk, then on update, the file is overwritten and is left as read-only.

Revert Feature Behavior

When you revert a file in Connector for SOLIDWORKS, the lock setting in X-CAD Design Management affects the reverted file.

When a file which is not locked by the user is reverted, the following occurs:

  • If the file is already read-only, it remains read-only after reverting.
  • If the file is already writable, it is made read-only after reverting.

Behavior Change in Configurations

The lock status of a file does cause specific behavior changes while managing configurations in 3DEXPERIENCE.

The following are the behavior changes while managing configurations in 3DEXPERIENCE:

  • If the family object is locked, the files that are downloaded on check-out are writable on the disk.
  • If a configuration is unlocked, which also causes the unlock of all the instances, the files are writable on check-out.
  • If the instance objects of a configuration are locked, on check-out the files become read-only on the disk.
