About Data Cards

Data cards contain metadata about the items users save in the database. The cards are included with the files.

The information included in the data cards means that users can easily and quickly search for files, folders, and other items without needing a local copy.

Connector for SOLIDWORKS has default cards that are installed on the users' systems when they install Connector for SOLIDWORKS. These cards are:

  • Folder Card for a folder
  • Generic File Card for a non-CAD file
  • Search Card for performing a search
  • SOLIDWORKS Assembly Card for a SOLIDWORKS assembly file
  • SOLIDWORKS Drawing Card for a SOLIDWORKS CAD drawing
  • SOLIDWORKS Part Card for a SOLIDWORKS part
  • Workspace for a workspace

As an administrator, you can create customized data cards to substitute for the default cards. Each card that you create and save to the database then becomes the active data card for your organization. For example, if you create and save a new SOLIDWORKS part card, each time your users create a SOLIDWORKS part and check it in for the first time the part file includes your customized part card.
