Exclude from BOM Support

In SOLIDWORKS, you can define designs to be excluded from the engineering BOM, even though they are included in the CAD structure. The CAD BOM captures this information. As a result, when the you create the 3DEXPERIENCE engineering BOM, designs marked for exclusion in the SOLIDWORKS CAD BOM are also excluded from the 3DEXPERIENCE engineering BOM.

If you exclude a design from the SOLIDWORKS BOM and thereby exclude it from the 3DEXPERIENCE Engineering BOM, nobody can perform an EBOM Sync operation on the object since it has been marked for exclusion from the BOM.

If a relationship between an object and its parent is marked for exclusion from the BOM, then the entire structure below the object, including that object, is excluded from the Engineering BOM of its parent.

For example, assume you have a handlebar and one of its component assemblies is the brake assembly. If you exclude the brake assembly from the BOM in SOLIDWORKS (by selecting the Exclude from bill of materials check box from the Component Properties dialog box):

  • The brake assembly listing displays in SOLIDWORKS as excluded from the BOM.
  • The brake assembly and all of its sub-assemblies and parts are excluded from the BOM in SOLIDWORKS and, after check-in, in the 3DEXPERIENCE server.
