Supported Card Types

When you create a card, you must select a card type. This topic presents the supported card types for Connector for SOLIDWORKS.

Card Type Description
File Card

Each file stored in the database can have a file card connected to it to show information such as the file's custom properties. This information is stored in the database and always available regardless of whether or not the file is opened. As a result, users can display file card information when they browse and search.

The layout of each file data card is customizable, and different file types can have different file data card layouts.

Folder Card

Use the Folder Card selection for both folder cards and workspace cards. When you select the Object type for a card, you can choose Workspace for a workspace card or WorkspaceVault for a folder card.

A database folder can have a folder card connected to it to show information about the folder. The information is stored in the database and displays when browsing or searching.

A workspace card provides information about the workspace; workspaces contain folders with files inside the folders. The information on the workspace card is stored in the database.
Search Card

Search cards enable custom searches when displayed in the Search tool or when users access Connector for SOLIDWORKS search within a Windows Explorer dialog box.

When you add to a search card control fields for a user to search on, you link them to attributes. For example, to provide search capability for the Customer attribute on all file and folder cards that use it, add an edit control to the search card and link it to the Customer attribute.
