Creating a Card

You can create a card by creating a new card or by modifying an existing card. Either way, the customized card is then specific to meet the needs of your organization.

Before you begin: Log in to the Connector for SOLIDWORKS client using the Integration Administrator Credentials.
  1. In Windows Explorer on the 3DEXPERIENCE menu bar, select Tools > Card Editor.
The Card Editor appears. If you previously opened cards in the Card Editor, the editor lists them in a Recently Used area.
  2. From the Card Editor, do one of the following:
    • To begin a new card, click New or select File > New.
    • To open a previously created card or a default card, click Open or select File > Open. Then select the desired card from the Open Card dialog box.
Tips: To start a new customized card type, you can open a default card as a starting point. When you have completed the customization, save the card with a different title. Alternatively, leave the default card opened in the Card Editor, and copy and paste from the default to your new customized card.

You can limit the search in the Open Card dialog box by typing the card name you want to open or by selecting an option from Cards of type.

    • To Import a card, select File > Import and navigate to the card file in the Open dialog box.
  3. Complete the Card Properties pane (on the right) as follows:
    1. To start a new card or rename a card, type a card name in the Title box.

If you are editing a previously saved card, you can leave the current name.

    2. Select a Card Type.

      Card Type Description Action
File Card Use for part, assembly, drawing and general file cards. Select an Object type: Choices are:
      • IEF Document for a general file card, that is, a non-CAD file.
      • Search for a Search card.
      • SW Assembly Family for an assembly card .
      • SW Component for a part card.
      • SW Component Family for a part card that is included in an assembly.
      • SW Drawing for a SOLIDWORKS CAD drawing card.
      • Workspace for a workspace card.
Folder Card Use for both folder and workspace cards.
Search Card Use for search cards.

Alternatively, select Card > Card Type, and select the card type.

    3. Optionally, select the Resizeable check box to allow users to resize the card.
  4. Optionally, include add-ins written for the Connector for SOLIDWORKS Client and saved on the server by completing the following under Add-ins:
    1. Select the Save a class ID (CLSID) or type the save CLSID.
    2. Select the Undo changes class ID (CLSID) or type the undo changes CLSID.
    3. Select the Input class ID (CLSID) or type the input CLSID.

For information about add-ins, see the Programmer's Reference Guide in the Connector for SOLIDWORKS online help.

  5. Add controls to the card as needed.

    The Card Editor controls include:

    • Image
    • Static Text
    • Frame
    • Edit (edit-box)
    • Button
    • Radio Button
    • Combobox Dropdown
    • Combobox Droplist
    • Combobox List
    • List
    • Tab Control
    • Checkbox
    • Date Field

  6. Optionally, set up conditions to make one or more controls hidden or read-only by selecting from the Card Editor menu bar Control > Control Logic and completing the Control Logic dialog box selections.
  7. To arrange the card elements, align or glue them using the appropriate icons.
  8. To save the card:
    1. Click Save or File > Save.
    2. From the Save Card dialog box, select an Object type.

The Card Editor makes the default the Object type that you selected for the card. If you change the Object type when you save the card, the card inherits the saved Object type in its Card Properties pane.

    3. Type In Title the card name.
    4. To save the card on your local drive, select the Save only locally check box; otherwise clear the check box to save to the database.

Tip: Select the Save only locally check box if you are in the process of developing and testing a card. The card becomes your active card for the selected card type, but only becomes your organization's active card when you save it to the database. When you are satisfied with your customized card, save the card again, but this time, clear the Save only locally check box.

    5. Click Save.

Your customized card is now listed in the Card Editor's Open Card and Save Card dialog boxes. If you saved the card to the database, it is available to your users.
