Entering a Default Value

Default Value is an option in the Edit control's Edit-box properties pane. Use this option to enter a string that can include dynamic default values.


Before you begin:
  • Open a new or existing card in the Card Editor.
  • Begin an Edit control and complete, as needed, the Value, Validation and Input formula areas and the Excluded configurations box in the Edit-box properties pane.

Adding an Edit Box

Context: Use this task to complete the Default value box on the Edit-box properties pane or the Default Value dialog box. The Default Value dialog box appears when you select from Default value.

  1. In the Default value box or the Default Value dialog box either:
    • Type your complete default value string.
    • Select to build your default value formula using these options:
      OptionAction
      Logged In UserSelect from options such as Login Name, Business Unit, Cell Phone, and Address.
      Date and TimeSelect from options, such as Today's Date, Current Year (4 digits), Current Day (2 digits), Current Hour (12), and Current A.M./P.M.
      Environment VariablesSelect from a menu of environment variables that include Path, ROOTDIR, and USERPROFILE.

    With any of these choices, you can also add static text into the Default Value box. The software does not evaluate the static text, but the edit box displays the text when users enter their selections from the related controls.

  2. Continue adding dynamic values from Logged in User, Date and Time, Environment Variables, and static text as needed until your default value is complete.
  3. If you are working in the Default Value formula dialog box, click OK.
    The software displays your dialog box entries in Input formula in the Edit-box properties pane.

Your default value entry displays in the Edit-box control when users display your customized card or check in a file.
