About Right Pane View Tabs

In Windows Explorer when you select a file in the right pane, tabs at the bottom of the pane give you access to information about the selected file.

  • The Preview tab displays an image of the selected file. If you have SOLIDWORKS eDrawings installed, the preview includes functions that let you manipulate the preview image.
  • The Properties tab displays the data card for the selected file and lets you edit the card if you have checked out the file.
  • When you select a file that has references to other files, the Contains tab displays all the child references of the selected file, including drawings.
  • When you select a file that is referenced by other files, the Where Used tab displays all the files in which the selected file is used.
  • The last active tab becomes the active tab the next time you select a model.

In addition, the Search tab lets you display a search form, where you can enter criteria to search the entire database, the current workspace, or the current folder and its subfolders.

The Search tab is always right-aligned and always visible. The other tabs – Preview, Properties, Contains, and Where Used – are customizable; you can hide them and move them. You can make any view tab, including the Search tab, the default tab, that is, the tab that appears when you select a file or folder.

Note: When you select a file, the system displays next to the Search tab, the version information for the file.
