Promote Dialog Box

The Promote dialog box allows you to promote an object from one lifecycle state to the next.

To access the dialog box, do one of the following:

  • In SOLIDWORKS, open the design object you want to promote, then click 3DEXPERIENCE > Promote.

    Alternatively, from the CommandManager 3DEXPERIENCE tab or from the right-click menu in the 3DEXPERIENCE task pane, click Promote.

  • In Windows Explorer, right-click the object to promote and click Promote.

Toolbar

The toolbar contains these commands:



Navigate all warning typesDisplays the list of message types you can navigate. This command only appears when the dialog box displays more than one type of message.
Next WarningSelects the next file with a warning. This command only appears when the dialog box displays more than one file name with a warning.
Previous WarningSelects the previous file with a warning. This command only appears when the dialog box displays more than one file name with a warning.

Select FilesOpens the Select Files dialog box, where you can specify a wildcard pattern to select files.


Open File ListOpens the file list in Windows Excel so that you can print or save a spreadsheet containing the information.


Save File ListSaves the file list as a comma separated values file with the extension .txt.
View ModeLets you select Details or Content. Details can provide several columns of information, some of which include check boxes for you to select. Content can provide the same information in fewer columns and includes a thumbnail of each file next to the file name.
Hide PreviewLets you toggle between hiding and displaying the thumbnail.
  • Hide Preview displays at the bottom of the dialog box, the thumbnail of the file. Click to hide the display.
  • Show Preview hides the thumbnail of the file. Click to show the thumbnail display.

Name List - Details View Mode

These are some of the columns available in the Details view. You can choose which columns to display.

Name

Selected files and files referenced by them. For assemblies, the list can include drawings, parts, sub-assemblies, and SOLIDWORKS simulation files.

Note: The software includes the related drawings when they are in the same folder as the part or assembly they are referencing.
Result

Result of promotion validation, which, are OK, a warning, or an error.

Tip: To review the warnings, from the toolbar, use the Next Warning and Previous Warning toolbar commands.

PromoteIndicates if the file is part of the promotion. Files with check marks are slated for promotion even though the check box is inactive.
IterationThe first letter/number pair is the local (cached) revision and iteration, or a hyphen (-) if locally modified. The second pair is the latest revision and iteration on the 3DEXPERIENCE server.

For example, A.4/A.6 means that the local iteration is A.4 and the server iteration is A.6.

Found in Folder containing the file.
StateLifecycle state of the file, for example, In Work, Frozen, Released or Obsolete.

Name List - Content View Mode

These are the standard columns available in the Content view when all the columns display. You can customize the column display and add more information to the Properties column.

File

Displays

  • Thumbnails of the selected files and files referenced by them.
  • File names of the selected files and files reference by them. For assemblies, the list can include drawings, parts, sub-assemblies, and SOLIDWORKS simulation files.
    Note: The software includes the related drawings when they are in the same folder as the part or assembly they are referencing.
  • State - Lifecycle state of the file, for example, In Work, Frozen, Released or Obsolete.

Result

Displays:

  • Result of check-in validation, which, are OK, a warning, or an error.

    Tip: To review the warnings, from the tool, use the Next Warning and Previous Warning toolbar commands.

  • Promote - A check box with a check mark indicates the file is part of the promotion.
  • Local Iter. - Indicates the iteration number of the local iteration. Hover the mouse over the local iteration to see the relationship of the local iteration to the 3DEXPERIENCE server iteration.
  • Iteration - The iteration number on the 3DEXPERIENCE server.

PathsFound in - The location path of the folder containing the file.
Properties Displays the properties you select from the Choose Properties dialog box.

Menu Options

Right-click in the file list to access these menu options:

ColumnsLets you add or remove columns.
ViewHas these menu options:
  • Details - Changes the view mode to Details.
  • Content - Changes the view mode to Content.
Select AllSelects all files.
Select FilesLets you use wildcards to select a group of files. You can then use a single keystroke to select or clear the check boxes for the selected files.
Open File ListOpens a list of the files in Microsoft Excel.
Save File ListLets you save the file list as a comma-separated .txt file.
