Accessing Baselined Designs

You use baselines to capture a snapshot of your designs at a particular point in time. If you want to return to a baselined design, for example, to use it as the starting point for a variation on the design, you can do so from the History dialog box or the Get command.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: To complete this procedure, you must have created a baseline for a design.

Accessing Baselines from SOLIDWORKS Using the Get Command

To access the baseline of a design while in SOLIDWORKS, use the Get Iteration command on the Task pane toolbar.

  1. Open the file for which you want to retrieve the baseline in SOLIDWORKS.
  2. In the Task pane, on the 3DEXPERIENCE toolbar, click Get Iteration.
  3. Click the baselined iteration, indicated by .
A Get dialog box specific to the baselined design opens. Files referenced by the baselined design are retrieved as built. The iIteration information shows the iteration of the design when it was baselined.
  4. Click Get.
If you have a later iteration of the design checked out in SOLIDWORKS, you are asked if you want to replace it with the baselined iteration.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Click Yes to replace the current file with the baselined design.
Note: If you have unsaved changes, they will be lost.
    • Click No if you do not want to overwrite changes you have made by opening the baseline design.
If you click Yes, the baselined design is opened in SOLIDWORKS. Note that the iteration in the Task pane corresponds to the iteration of the baselined design.
  6. If you modify the design and click File > Save, you are warned that the iteration you are saving is not the latest iteration of the file and asked if you want to save the open file as a copy.

Accessing Baselines from the History Dialog Box

Because baselines are saved as events in the History dialog box, you can use the View command in the History dialog box to open a baselined design in SOLIDWORKS.

  1. In Windows Explorer, select the file for which you want to retrieve the baseline and click Display > History.
  2. In the History dialog box, scroll to the baselined iteration of the design and select it.
  3. Click .
A Get <baseline> dialog box specific to the baselined design opens. Files referenced by the baselined design are retrieved as built. The Iteration information shows the iteration of the design when it was baselined.
  4. Click Get.
If you do not have the design checked out, you are prompted to check it out.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Click Yes to open the design and check it out.
    • Click No to open the design without checking it out.
The baselined design is opened in SOLIDWORKS. Note that the iteration in the Task pane corresponds to the iteration of the baselined design.
  6. If you modify the design and click File > Save, you are warned that the iteration you are saving is not the latest iteration of the file and asked if you want to save the open file as a copy.
