Baselining Designs

This task shows you how to create a baseline for designs that exist on 3DEXPERIENCE server.


Before you begin: Before you begin, the design must exist on the 3DEXPERIENCE server.
  1. To display the Baseline dialog box, do one of the following:
    • If the design is open in SOLIDWORKS, invoke the Baseline command from one of these locations:
      • 3DEXPERIENCE CommandManager
      • 3DEXPERIENCE menu
      • Shortcut menu in the 3DEXPERIENCE task pane
    • If you are using Windows Explorer, select the design and invoke the Baseline command from one of these locations:
      • The Windows command bar
      • The Action menu

    The Baseline dialog box appears.

    The default iteration of the top level file is the iteration of the file in the local cache.

  2. To create the baseline for a different iteration of the file:
    1. On the left side of the toolbar, click the arrow beside Iteration to list available iterations.
    2. Select the iteration for the baseline.
    When you select a different iteration, the entire tree is reloaded.
  3. Optionally, change the file name in the Name field.

    The default name for a baseline file has this structure:

    filename-userloginname-date

    The date format is based on your date settings.

  4. In the Description field, type a description to be associated with the baseline.

    In the History dialog box, the description is shown as a comment.

  5. Click Create.
    If a baseline of the same name already exists, a message box asks if you want to replace it.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • Click Yes to replace the file with a new baseline.
    • Click No to return to the Baseline dialog box and change the file name.
