Using SOLIDWORKS Design Templates

You can use SOLIDWORKS templates stored in 3DEXPERIENCE to create models in SOLIDWORKS.

Before you begin: SOLIDWORKS templates created using the Web Client (X-CAD Design Management).
  1. Start a new SOLIDWORKS document by doing one of the following:
    • In SOLIDWORKS, click File > New.

In the New SOLIDWORKS Document dialog box, click Advanced.

Click the tab containing the 3DEXPERIENCE templates.

Tip: The tab name is based on your current 3DEXPERIENCE vault view.

Select the template to use and click OK.

    • In Windows Explorer, right-click the folder where you want to create the document, click New, and select the template to use from the list of templates at the top of the menu.
A dialog box with the name of the template appears.
  2. Optional: Optionally, in the File name field, type a new file name.

The default file name is either the name of the template source file or a new auto-generated name if an auto-number generator is selected for the file type.

  3. Optional: Optionally, specify a Location to save the file.

The software computes a default location based on factors such as the folder specified in the template, the default folder for SOLIDWORKS files, or the last save folder used in SOLIDWORKS.

  4. If the Object type field is available, select an object type.

If the field is unavailable, the object type shown is used.

An object type must be specified to open the template.

  5. Optional: Optionally, edit available fields in the data card.

You can also edit data card fields after completing and saving the model.

  6. To see the template definition in the Web client, click Explore Template .
  7. Click OK.

The template opens in SOLIDWORKS.
