Using Auto-naming when Saving Files

If auto-name generators have been created for the server and turned on from the Options dialog box, when you save files from SOLIDWORKS, the files are automatically named using the default auto-name generator. You can accept the name that is automatically generated or choose a different auto-naming sequence to change the name.

Before you begin:
  • Configure auto-naming on the Server tab of the Options dialog box.

  1. In SOLIDWORKS, click File > Save As.
    In the Save As dialog box, the File name field is automatically populated with a name generated by the default auto-name generator.
  2. To use a different auto-name generator, right-click the file name and select Generate Auto-name with > auto-name generator.

    Note: You can also manually name the file.

  3. Click Save.
    The file is renamed.
