Smart Grid
A smart grid helps you create and precisely position your drawing. It appears automatically in the Draw on Grid mode.
Important: The background with grid is not supported for motion. Use an empty background. |
The grid origin and axes are visualized as follows:
Color | Description |
---|---|
Cross | Grid origin. |
Red | x-axis. Corresponds to global x-axis. |
Green | y-axis. Corresponds to global y-axis. |
Blue | z-axis. Corresponds to global z-axis. |
The scale of the smart grid changes dynamically as you zoom.
Smart Grid Position with respect to Existing Geometry
You can select a planar face or existing geometry to lock the smart grid. The smart grid is positioned and oriented to accommodate the overall shape of the underlying geometry and the user's viewpoint. Any faces in the same plane are highlighted. If you select more than one face or item, the smart grid does not appear automatically.
To draw in the same plane as an existing planar face, pause over the face and press Spacebar to lock the smart grid in position, and then move away from the face and start drawing.
To position the smart grid along an edge or with respect to wireframe geometry, select the edge or geometry directly or use the Draw in 3D mode.
You can pause over planar faces and geometry to preview the smart grid.
Smart Grid Position from Scratch
When starting from scratch, you can pause over a Robot plane or a document plane to preview the smart grid.
Press the Spacebar to edit the coordinates, and use the handles at the grid origin and reference point (corresponding to the document origin 0,0,0) to adjust the grid position more precisely.
