Modifying Curves and Surfaces

You can move faces, edges and vertices. You can also move, resize and rotate entire 3D shapes.

This task shows you how to:

Move Elements to a New Location

You can use Move Element and the Robot to move a face, point or line to a new location.

  1. Select the geometric elements.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Robot .
  3. Select Local Mode and click Move selected shell face(s) .
  4. Drag a Robot axis.

When moving, the Robot is hidden. It reappears when you release the mouse. The ruler displays the distance you move the geometry as you drag the Robot axis.

  5. When finished, release the mouse.

    • Moving a point or edge of a single face resizes or stretches the face respectively.
    • Moving a point at the corner of a 3D shape or at the intersection of several faces modifies the entire shape.

Move Straight Edges

You can use Move Edge to move straight edges of 3D shapes along Robot axes and modify or alter the entire shape. You can also move the common edge between two faces.

  1. Select one or more edges.
  2. In the context toolbar, click Robot .
  3. Click Move Edge .
  4. Drag a Robot axis.

When moving, the Robot is hidden. It reappears when you release the mouse. The ruler displays the distance you move the geometry as you drag the Robot axis.
