About Walls from an Edge

Behavior of a wall from edge when its reference edge is shortened

Length

If you select Length as the Height Type, you can specify the length depending on the reference wall:

Option Description
Outer The length is computed from the bottom of the reference wall.
Inner The length is computed from the top of the reference wall.
Standard The length is computed from the top of the bend.
Extrapolated The length is computed from the intersection between the bottom of the reference wall and the bottom of the wall on edge.
Normal The length is an absolute value of the wall on edge without bend.

Height Type

If you select Up to Plane/Surface as the Height, you can define the height limit of the wall on edge using a plane or a surface.

Define the height limit by clicking either Interior or Exterior of the wall on edge. When the Height limit is selected, the offset value corresponds to the height of the wall from the top of the bend.

Clearance

You can offset the wall from the selected edge and define a clearance value that corresponds to the radius of the bend on this edge. The reference wall remains unchanged when changing the bend radius value. Only the length of the wall from an edge is affected.

Option Description
No Clearance Defines the wall on edge without clearance.
Monodirectional Moves the wall in one direction.
Bidirectional Moves the wall in two directions.
Note: This clearance mode implies a relation created through the formula, between the wall position and the Sheet Metal parameters bend value. Consequently, after designing your shape, the wall position changes if you modify the Sheet Metal parameters bend value.

Note: A context menu is available on the clearance handle in the work area and lets you modify the following parameters:
  • The clearance mode.
  • The bend, that is whether the wall is created with or without a bend.
  • The selection. The Auto Selection option lets you select all the edges belonging to the support faces and the Clear Selection option lets you remove the selected edges.

Material Side

By default, the material side keeps a continuity with the reference profile.

However, you can change it by clicking the red arrow or the Invert material . The continuity between the material side and the reference profile does no longer exist.

Limiting Geometry

You can define the width limits of the wall on edge using planes or surfaces.

  • When a single edge is selected, enter values for the left and right limits and define the limit position, by clicking either Interior or Exterior .
  • Enter a value for the left and right offsets. In the Automatic mode, you can define whether you want to swap the limits of all edges or of each edge one by one.
    Note: To swap the offsets, select one of the following from the list:
    • None: Keeps the limits unchanged.
    • All edges: Swaps the limits of all the edges defined in the wall on edge.
    • Individual edge: Swaps the limits of an individual edge using
  • If you select multiple edges, the left and right limits are no longer shown. Instead, you can modify the distance between the left and right offsets in the Gap value box.
  • Extremities must be the same when propagating the wall on edge.
