Designing in Context

You can create a sheet metal shape in an Assembly Design context.

Before you begin: Create a mechanical assembly containing two pads in the Assembly Design app.

  1. Right-click the assembly in the tree and select Insert > New Representation.
  2. Switch to the Sheet Metal Design app.
  3. From the Model section of the action bar, click Sheet Metal Parameters .
    The Sheet Metal Parameters Definition dialog box appears.
  4. Define the parameters.
  5. Click OK.
  6. From Me > Preferences > Infrastructure > 3D Shape Infrastructure > General, select the Keep link with selected object option.
  7. Click OK.
  8. From the Model section of the action bar, click Positioned Sketch .
    The Sketch Positioning dialog box appears.
  9. Select the plane and click OK.
  10. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Profile .
  11. Sketch the profile and set the constraints as shown below:


  12. Click Exit app to return to the 3D area.
  13. From the Model section of the action bar, click Extrusion .
  14. Select the profile.
    The Extrusion Definition dialog box appears.
  15. Modify the dimension of the first limit.
  16. Click Preview.


    Important: The material side should be set to the outside.
  17. Click OK.
    The extrusion is created and the tree is updated accordingly.
