Integrating and Importing Parts

You can integrate Part Design features and Sheet Metal Design features and import Bent Part Design parts in the Sheet Metal Design app. It is possible according to the following rules:

  • Part Design features can be created before Sheet Metal Designfeatures.
  • A Part Design feature can be created after Sheet Metal Design features as long as the part is in folded view.
  • The Part Design feature is not displayed in the unfolded view.
  • You cannot create Sheet Metal Design features after the last Part Design feature in folded view.

Before you begin: Create a part.

Integration with Part Design

You can have both Part Design features and Sheet Metal Design features in a 3D shape document.

Before you begin: Create two walls with a bend.
  1. Switch to the Part Design app.
  2. From the Model section of the action bar, click Positioned Sketch .
  3. In the Sketcher app, draw an oblique line.
  4. From the Refine section of the action bar, click Stiffener .


  5. Switch to the Sheet Metal Design app.
  6. From the standard area area of the action bar, click Fold/Unfold .


    The stiffener is not displayed on the unfolded view.

    Important: To add a Sheet Metal Design feature and switch to the Sheet Metal Design app, select the feature and select the Define In Work Object context item.

Import of Bent Part Design Parts

You can import Bent Part Design parts and modify them in the Sheet Metal Design app.

Before you begin: Create a 3D shape in the Bent Part Design app.
  1. Switch to the Sheet Metal Design app.
    A tree appears on the left-hand side and the Sheet Metal Design parameters are automatically created.
  2. Modify the part.
  3. Click Sheetmetal Live to switch between Bent Part Design and Sheet Metal Design apps.
