Configuring Systems Architecture Definition

You can configure the architecture number and proposed solution.

Required access role: Administrator

This task shows you how to:

Configure Architecture Number Parameterization Formula

As an administrator, you can configure the required pattern for architecture numbers that users create.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. Under Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center, click System Architecture Definition. You may need to scroll through the list to find it.
  3. Expand the Architecture Number section and click Add Field.
    The Add Field window opens.
  4. In the Name field, enter a name for the field. The name appears in the formula table but not in the architecture number.
  5. In the Order field, select the placement order of the field in the architecture number. The lowest available placement order is shown by default. The highest allowed value is 10.

Note: You cannot use an Order value that is already in the formula table.

  6. In the Type list, select the field type:
    • Text - After selecting the type Text, enter a string of one or more characters in the Value field. This is fixed for all architecture numbers.
    • User Input - You can enter any text in this field.
    • Attribute - After selecting the type Attribute:
      1. Select an option in the Attribute list.
      2. Enter a value in the Default Value field. Text and numeric strings are allowed.
    • Counter - Select a counter size between 1 and 10 digits. The default counter value is 6.
Note: A warning message appears in the Edit Field window if the architecture number counter exceeds the number of digits that you specify but the counter will continue to increment as users continue to add parts.
  7. Click Add.
  8. In the table, click Apply.

The numbering formula that you create is listed in the Architecture Number table. The table fields are described below.

    Field Description
Name The name given to the field to create the formula.
Order The order in which the field appears in the formula.
    Type The field type.
    Value The field value.
Actions Select the icon to either edit or remove the field from the formula.
Counter Unicity Indicates whether the field counter uses a unique number for each engineering item.
Deploy Status Indicates whether the field has been applied to the formula. Click Apply as required.

  9. To edit a field, click Edit field in the Actions column.

    When you edit a field:

    • You cannot edit the Name and Type fields. To change the name, delete the existing field and create a new field with the required name.
    • When you edit the order, you can only use values that are not used by other fields.

  10. To remove a field, click Remove field in the Actions column.

Managing Projects

A project is logical set of CollabSpaces within a company. You can create project or a Collabspace group

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. Under Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center, click System Architecture Definition. You may need to scroll through the list to find it.
  3. Expand the Architecture Number: Projects (Collaborative Space Grouping) section and click Add Field.
The Add Project (Collaborative Space Group) window opens.
  4. In the Group Name field, enter a name for the field.
  5. In the Collaborative Space field, select one or more Collabspaces to group them to form a logical structure of a Project.
  6. Click Add.
  7. In the table, click Apply.
The Collabspace group is added. You can also edit or delete the Collabspace group.

Manage Architecture Number

As an Administrator, you can ensure that, whenever a user enters an architecture number for an object, the number is verified if it exists in the system. If it exists, you have to enter a different number.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. Under Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center, click System Architecture Definition. You may need to scroll through the list to find it.
  3. To manage the creation of an architecture number, in Architecture Number Management section, select or clear the following options:

    Options Description
Validate Architecture Number Uniqueness When you select this check box, set architecture number action validates for uniqueness of a new architecture number.
Validates Architecture Number Uniqueness by Project (Collaborative Spaces group) When you select this check box, architecture number uniqueness is validated within the project. If the Collaborative Space of a reference is not any project, architecture number cann't be set for that reference.
Allow Logical Reference to get an Architecture Number set on Product Reference When you select this check box, a logical reference gets an architecture number which is already set on the product reference.
Copy Architecture Number to Logical Reference Title When this check box is selected, set architecture number action on a logical reference copies the architecture number to its title.
Copy Architecture Number to Product Reference Title When this check box is selected, set architecture number action on a product reference copies the architecture number to its title.
Forbid Architecture Number Edit if at least one Reference in Revision Family is Frozen. When this checkbox is selected, set architecture number action on a reference is forbidden if atleast one reference in a family is in Frozen or Released state.

Manage Proposed Solution

As an administrator, you can configure the proposed solutions.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. Under Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center, click System Architecture Definition. You may need to scroll through the list to find it.
  3. Expand the Proposed Solution Management section.
  4. Select or clear the Allow Multiple Proposed Solution check box to define or remove the preference to assign multiple proposed solutions to a logical reference.
    The preferences are saved.

Manage Logical Reference Creation

As an administrator, you can configure the option to allow creation of logical reference subtypes.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. Under Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center, click System Architecture Definition. You may need to scroll through the list to find it.
  3. Expand the Logical Reference Creation Management section.
  4. Select or clear the Propose Creation of Logical Sub-Type in Systems Architecture check box to allow creation of logical reference subtypes while creating logical references.
