Configuring Effectivity

As an Administrator, you can enable effectivity criteria and change the effectivity expression display in the user interface.

This task shows you how to:

Use Date and Unit Effectivity Criteria

You can turn on the ability to use date and unit effectivity. These criteria are not enabled by default.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. In the left pane, select Configuration Management.
  3. To turn on date effectivity criteria, in the Configuration Criteria section, select the Enable Date Effectivity check box.
  4. To turn on unit effectivity criteria, in the Configuration Criteria section, select the Enable Unit Effectivity check box.

The selected effectivity criteria types are now available for use when defining effectivity.

Improve Product Structure Expansion Performance

You can turn off instantiated product configuration capabilities, which affect product structure expansion performance, if you do not use them. These capabilities are enabled by default.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. In the left pane, select Configuration Management.
  3. To turn off product configuration instantiation capabilities, clear the check box for Enable Product Configuration instantiation.
This improves performance because unused product instantiation functionality is now ignored when the product’s structure is expanded. Clearing the check box removes the following commands that allow you to add instantiated products to a structure, which must be considered during structure expansion:
    • Insert Product Configuration and Replace by Existing Configuration commands in native apps
    • Add Existing Product Configuration command in the Engineering Release app

Improve Configuration Filtering Performance

You can turn off capabilities that affect configuration filtering performance if you do not use them. These capabilities are enabled by default.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. In the left pane, select Configuration Management.
  3. To turn off composition matrix capabilities, clear the check box for Enable Composition Matrix.
This improves performance by removing functionality that is used during configuration filtering. It does so by:
    • Removing all authoring commands from the Master Composition tab of the model's Logical Features category in Variant Management and Variant Analysis and Reuse.
    • Removing the View Design Effectivity Matrix command from the Reports menu in the model's Model Versions category in Variant Management and Variant Analysis and Reuse.
    • Removing the Reports menu and its Manufacturing Plan Matrix command from the Derivations tab in the model's Manufacturing Plans category in Variant Management and Variant Analysis and Reuse.
    • Removing the Edit Design Effectivity command from the Actions menu in the model version's Properties tab in Variant Management and Variant Analysis and Reuse.
    • Removing the Manufacturing Plan Matrix command from the Actions menu and the Edit Manufacturing Plan Breakdown command from the Reports menu in the Composition tab of the model version's Manufacturing Plans category in Variant Management and Variant Analysis and Reuse.
    • Removing the Manufacturing Plans Breakdown category from manufacturing plans in Variant Management and Variant Analysis and Reuse.

Customize the Effectivity Expression Display

You can customize how the effectivity expression displays in the user interface.

Current XSL The current modified stylesheet that specifies how effectivity expressions display in the user interface.
The selected type of XSL stylesheet downloads to your computer.
  4. Update the XSL stylesheet to specify the custom display format for effectivity expressions in the user interface.
  5. Click Browse then navigate to the location of your edited XSL stylesheet.
  6. Select the file, then click Open.
  7. Click Upload.

Your uploaded XSL spreadsheet becomes the current XSL spreadsheet used to specify the display format of effectivity expressions in the user interface.
