Configuring Engineering BOM Management

If Engineering BOM Management is installed, Administrator users can select rules to prevent content promotion or configure connections when a component part is released. You must have the Collaborative Industry Innovator license role configure Engineering BOM Management.

The Engineering Part Automation widget displays even if your system does not have Engineering BOM Management installed, and the widget is empty.

  1. Open the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center widget. For more information, see Widgets to Configure Content and Business Rules.
  2. In the menu in the left pane, click Engineering Part Automation.

The app applies the changes as soon as you select a check box.

  3. Select each rule that you want to activate, or clear the check box for each rule you want to deactivate. The app applies the changes as soon as you select a check box.

    Rule Name Description
Automatic Float of EBOM to Latest released When a component part is released, the EBOM connection is floated to the newly released part.
Un-Configured EBOM Model There are two modes in which users can view an EBOM structure, Instance mode and Quantity mode. By default, Engineering BOM Management is installed with the Quantity mode enabled. To switch to Instance mode, follow the instructions below. The change affects all EBOMs system wide.
Note: Anyone who has access to create a BOM can create a BOM in Instance Mode. Once you switch to Instance mode, switching back to Quantity mode is not recommended.
EBOM Quantity Rollup based on Find Number Select this option to enable find numbers to be considered for Quantity Rollup view. When a user selects the Quantity Rollup view for a BOM, part instances are combined into one row. To be combined, instances must share the same Type, Name, Revision, Reference Designator, and Design Collaboration values. By default, find numbers are not considered.
Reset revision sequence Resets the revision value to 1 when the part moves from development to production. By default, the revision number or code of a part is unchanged after the user moves the part from the Development release phase to Production.
    Default Design Collaboration for Part

Select this option to enable To enable auto synchronization by default when users create parts. The Design Collaboration option on the Create Part form is not selected by default, preventing the product structure from being created at the time the part is created. Users can still select Design Collaboration or create the product structure using manual collaboration.

Automatic Update from EBOM to Product Structure - (selected by default). Parts created with Design Collaboration selected will be automatically synchronized. The product structure will be updated with the changes that the user makes to the part.
Automatic EBOM update on Design Freeze/Release This option ensures auto collaboration of a product structure with the associated EBOM in the Engineering BOM Management when the product reaches the Frozen or Released state. This option applies to structures not under EBOM Control and set with Expand Depth as 1. Automatic EBOM update occurs only if the product is already collaborated.
Change Collaboration for EBOM-Product Structure This option enables users to collaborate changes between an EBOM and its corresponding product structure using change actions. Change-based collaboration is turned on by default if there are no change actions in the database; typically, for a new installation. To enable change object dependency, turn off change-based collaboration.
