Exporting Data to STEP

You can export data (assembly and geometry data) to one or several disk-based STEP files. Data can be in one product or one 3D shape representation.

Before you begin: Under STEP Concepts, check recommended practices, licensing and application protocol requirements in Requirements.
  1. Save all data in session and go to the tab containing the data to export.
    1. If unsaved data exist, a message is displayed. Follow the instructions it provides.
  2. Select the required STEP Exchange options.

For more information about their behavior, read the STEP Concepts.

    1. Select an Application Protocol (AP).

      • AP214 exports data to STEP AP214 IS files.
      • AP242 ed1 enables the export of data to STEP xml files. See Application Protocols in Requirements for more information.

    2. Optional: Select an Assemblies option.
    3. Optional: Select the Enable data quality enhancement at export option.
    4. Click OK when done.
  3. Select Share > Export

    See Export for more information.

A file selection dialog box is displayed.
  4. Go to the directory where you want to export the file.
    1. Select the format: STEP (*.stp), STEP (*.stpZ), STEP (*.stpx) or STEP (*.stpxZ).

Z stands for compressed files, x for STEP XML files.

    2. Key in the name of the file to create in File name.
    3. Click OK.
    • A progress bar is displayed.
    • Click Cancel to interrupt the transfer at any time. The current conversion operation is then interrupted (after the processing of the current independent entity) and the partial conversion already performed is saved in the STEP file.
    • A message is displayed when the export is completed.
    • See About Reports for more information about result checks.
