Decimating Meshes

Decimate reduces the triangle count of a mesh to save computation time and memory requirements. Decimate is performed on the entire region.

  1. Select a mesh exempt of non-manifold problems, even on non-active areas.
  2. Select the type of decimation to apply.
  3. Enter the parameter values for the selected type of decimation.
  4. To control the decimation of free edges, when a rectangular shape sees its corners cut off after decimation, select the Free Edge Tolerance check box.
The distance between the resulting decimated boundary and the original boundary remains under the set tolerance.
  5. Select the Analysis check box before clicking Apply to see the maximum distance and the mean distance between the original mesh and the result mesh at the end of the computation.
