Adding a Time Analysis to a Catalog

This procedure describes creating a catalog, and then an analysis that you add to the catalog as a chapter. You or other staff can then attach the analysis to an operation in a PPR Context.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin:
  • Have PPR open with applicable root system and operations.
  • Basic understanding of how to create an analysis, as described in:Creating a Time Analysis.
  • Basic understanding of catalog and chapter use and management, as explained in Design IP Classification: Design IP Classification.

Create a New Catalog

This shows you how to create a new catalog, which you can add a new analysis. Before you begin.

  1. Select Add > Content > New Content. If the Catalog is not present in the New Content pane, search for catalog in the box at the bottom to present it.
  2. If you want to open a new catalog with a default name, click: .
    The catalog appears in a new tab. You can rename the catalog in right-click > Properties.
  3. If you want to first open the Catalog dialog box to provide a name for the catalog, then right-click and select Set attributes at creation. Then click .
    In the resulting Catalog dialog box, you can change the default name.
  4. In Search, you can retrieve time analyses from the database to add to the catalog.

Create an Unattached Time Analysis

In this procedure, you create a time analysis that is not attached to an operation. An unattached analysis can add to a catalog, from which it can attach to operations.

  1. In the Time-Motion Study, click Add > Time Analysis.
  2. In the resulting Time Analysis dialog box, change the analysis title and add a description per your site standards, then select a subsystem and click OK. The analysis saves in a new tab. To define the analysis criteria, select it and click Edit Time Analysis.
    Note: If you cannot see the analysis in the tab, click F3 to make it visible.
  3. In the resulting Time Analysis Details dialog box, create the new time analysis as required for use in the catalog. When finished, click OK.
  4. Select the new analysis, in the same tab, and then choose Share > Save.
    This saves the analysis to a system database, where you can access it for the catalog.
  5. Select Search for the new time analysis.
    The new time analysis is displayed in the Search Window.

    You can add the time analysis lines or modify or delete the existing ones and then save.

  6. Select the Time Analysis that is created.
    The New dialog box appears.
  7. Click Open, Open Advanced.
    The created analysis is opened and the Edit Time Analysis toolbar appears.
  8. You can make further changes as required to the analysis. Then click Close.
    The Close Dialog box message appears: Do you want to save the changes to the following object?. Click Yes to save the changes.

Insert the Time Analysis Into the Catalog

You can integrate the time analysis from the chapter to the catalog.

  1. Select or search the PPR Context with the General System and the General Operation.
    The Search window presents the results.
    1. Right-click Open Advanced in the Search window.
    2. Right-click General system and select Expand all.
    3. Click Insert > General Operations to create operations.
  2. Select Tools > Catalog Browser.
    The Catalog Browser dialog box appears.
  3. Select Use Item > Insert as Copy and select an operation under the system.
    If a time analysis is already attached to the PPR operation, a dialog appears.
  4. Click Yes to replace the existing time analysis with a new one.
    A message shows Insertion Successful. The time analysis reference then copies under the selected operation.
