Design with SOLIDWORKS

Design with SOLIDWORKS provides a multisite design data management solution for the extended enterprise. It enables designers to access, share, and manage lifecycle on SOLIDWORKS Desktop data from within the native SOLIDWORKS user interface by using SOLIDWORKS the Design with SOLIDWORKS.

The Design with SOLIDWORKS is available on cloud and on-premises with the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS role.

On the cloud only: If you have the 3D Component Designer role and the SOLIDWORKS Add-in app, the features of the Design with SOLIDWORKS are available in the SOLIDWORKS Add-in app.
Note: If you have both the Collaborative Designer role and the SOLIDWORKS Add-in app, you can see two SOLIDWORKS apps namely, the Design with SOLIDWORKS and the SOLIDWORKS Add-in, in the My Apps section of the Compass.

Important: The configuration settings documented in this guide are applicable only for PLM Collaboration Services apps, which are not based on the X-CAD Design Management app.

Using Design with SOLIDWORKS, you (designer) can:

  • Access to 3DEXPERIENCE capabilities within the SOLIDWORKS user interface. You can search, navigate, share, and store CAD design data effortlessly without leaving your preferred environment.
  • Store their native SOLIDWORKS data in 3DEXPERIENCE. You can create assemblies, parts, and drawings in 3DEXPERIENCE using a unified data model. The data created in SOLIDWORKS can be authored only in SOLIDWORKS, but can be opened for review in 2D and 3D 3DEXPERIENCE widgets and CATIA.
  • Manage concurrent engineering and collaborative operations on SOLIDWORKS native data: reserve, revise, manage lifecycle maturity status.
  • Use the 3DSearch, Product Explorer, Relations, Bookmark Editor, Collaborative Tasks from SOLIDWORKS Desktop or access 3DEXPERIENCE dashboard to use all 3DEXPERIENCE apps working with the adopted unified data model.
