Adding Files to My Work

You can add files to the My Work folder locally or from 3DEXPERIENCE.

This task shows you how to:

Add Files from 3DEXPERIENCE

You can add files into the My Work folder from 3DEXPERIENCE by opening the required file.

Using 3DSearch, open a file in SOLIDWORKS.
The file is downloaded into the My Work folder, if it does not already exist in the My Work folder.
Notes:
  • If you search and open a drawing, only the drawing and related files are downloaded into the My Work folder, if the files do not already exist in the folder. No related drawings to associated files are downloaded.
  • If you search and open an assembly, only the assembly and related parts are downloaded into the My Work folder, if the files do not already exist in the folder. No related drawings are retrieved.

Add Files Locally

You can add files into the My Work folder by saving a file from SOLIDWORKS.

  1. Click File > Save or Save As, from SOLIDWORKS.
  2. Navigate to the My Work folder and click Save.
The file is added into the My Work folder. If the Enforce auto-naming option is selected in the settings page of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the file name is auto computed.
Note: You can save the files into a subfolder within the My Work folder.

Add Files Using Copy of Windows Explorer

You can add files into the My Work folder, using the Copy-Paste command of windows.

  1. Right-click a file and select Copy.
  2. Browse to the My Work folder, right-click, and select Paste.
The file is added into the My Work folder. If the Enforce auto-naming option is selected in the Options dialog box, the file name is auto computed.
    Notes:
    • You can drag a file from the local folder and drop into the My Work folder to create the same file.
    • Files copied/dragged from the local folder and pasted/dropped to the My Work folder are considered as local copies. Hence, you must open these files in SOLIDWORKS and save to 3DEXPERIENCE.
    • Files within My Work can be copy-pasted to a subfolder within My Work, but these files are considered local copies even if a 3DEXPERIENCE file is copied.

Setting a Current Folder

You can choose a folder that is defined a default folder and acts as a local cache in the My Work folder. In this folder, you can download or upload files while executing the Open or Save commands.

  1. In Windows Explorer, right-click the folder located under My Work folder.
  2. Click Set as Current option.

This command declares a Windows folder as the current Current MyWork folder. If you are not in the CurrentMyWork folder, with the Go to Current command you can switch the Windows Explorer view to the CurrentMyWork folder.

Note: If the current folder is deleted, the My Work folder is changed to CurrentMyWork folder.

The selected folder is now the default folder in My Work where all the upload and download operations are performed. The folder icon changes to that represents the CurrentMyWork folder and for other folders.
