Creating a Template

You can create a template to use it as a basis to create other SOLIDWORKS objects. If the template is not saved in 3DEXPERIENCE, the Create Template dialog appears.

  1. Open a template file in MySession.
  2. Save the file in 3DEXPERIENCE using the Save command.

You can save the file using any of the save commands available in the MySession widget.

    • From the contextual menu > Save
    • From the contextual menu > Save with Options
    • From the Action Bar > Save Active Window

  3. In the Create Template dialog box, enter the following information:

    Field Name Description
Title The title of the template. By default, the file name of the template is displayed as the title.
Description The description of the template.
File The file name of the template. This is non-editable field.

  4. Click Create as Released or Create as Private to create a template.

    • The Create as Released command creates a template in Released state and cannot be edited.
    • The Create as Private command creates a template in Private state and can be edited.

The templates created in 3DEXPERIENCE are XCAD templates. They are indexed so that they can be searched using 3DSearch. You can change the lifecycle of the templates or delete them.

Note: To view the properties of the template, click the icon in the Relations widget.

The template is saved in 3DEXPERIENCE, and MySession is refreshed to show the information about the associated template. The saved template is also available in SOLIDWORKS.
