Combining Bodies

You can combine geometry to create a new part.

This task shows you how to:

Context: When combining bodies, you can combine multiple bodies from within a single Ordered Geometrical Set (OGS) or multiple OGSs. If you create multiple bodies from a single sketch, you can select a single body within that sketch. The other bodies created in that sketch do not automatically combine.

Add. Defines a new part by adding your Bodies selections.
Subtract. Defines a new part by removing your Tool Bodies selection from your Target Bodies selection.
Common. Defines a new part from the intersection of your Target Bodies and Tool Bodies selections.

Adding Bodies

You can combine bodies to form a new body.

  1. From the Features section of the action bar, click Combine .
  2. Click Add .

    If subtracting bodies or creating intersecting geometry, see Subtracting or Intersecting Bodies.

  3. Select the Bodies to combine.

  4. Click .

Subtracting or Intersecting Bodies

You can combine bodies to remove where the bodies intersect or use only the intersecting section to create a new body.

  1. From the Features section of the action bar, click Combine .
  2. Click Subtract or Common .

    If adding two bodies, see Adding Bodies.

  3. Select the Target Bodies to combine.
  4. Select the Tool Bodies to combine.
    If subtracting, the Tool Bodies selection is removed from your Target Bodies selection.

    When you select Common , the intersection of your Target Bodies and your Tool Bodies creates the new body.

  5. Click .
