Sketching Through Point Splines

You can sketch through point splines. You can add points to existing through point splines.

This task shows you how to:

Sketch a Simple Spline

You can sketch a spline by clicking points to define its path.

  1. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Through Point Spline .
  2. In the 3D area, click to place the first point and then move the pointer.

  3. Click the next point and move the pointer again.

  4. Repeat for each segment, and then double-click to complete the spline.

To exit the command press ESC.

Add a Spline Point

You can add points to a spline to provide more control over the shape of the spline.

  1. In the work area, hover over an existing spline and right-click.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Spline Point .
A white circle appears on a spline and a cursor changes to .
  3. Click anywhere on the spline to insert spline points.

All the spline points excluding the end points are through points and appear as star.

  4. Optional: Select a point on a spline that you want to delete and do one of the following:
    • Press Delete.
    • Right-click the point and click .

Sketch an Intersecting Spline

You can connect splines to other sketch entities by creating coincident points where the spline intersects the entity. When creating a spline that crosses an existing spline or other sketch entity, the new spline snaps to the intersecting entity to create a coincident point.

  1. Start a sketch and create a sketch entity.
In this procedure, the starting sketch entity is also a spline.
  2. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Through Point Spline .
  3. Sketch a spline that makes contact or crosses the previous sketch entity.

  4. Complete the spline and click the intersecting point.
The intersecting point becomes a coincident point .

  5. Click or right-click the coincident point to display the context toolbar options.
