Sharing 3D Files with 3DSwym Communities

You can share 3DXML files with colleagues in your communities on your 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Create a model in the work area. You must also be a member of a 3DSwym community.

Share a 3DXML File Using the Action Bar

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Share as 3D .
    The Share File dialog box opens.
  2. Select whether to share to a Community or Conversation.
    • Community - Lists the communities that you are a member of.
    • Conversation - Lists the members in your community. You can only share as Media or Post
  3. Select one of the following content types:
    • Media - Files images, videos, audio files, 3D models, documents, and drawings that you can embed in Posts, Questions, Ideas, Wiki Pages, answers and comments. For more information, see 3D Modeling: 3DPlay for Dashboard: Sharing Content.
    • Post - A blog article that you can edit using the rich text editor.
    • Question - Ask questions to all members of a community and receive replies.
    • Idea - A starting point to create and innovate by sharing knowledge with community members.
  4. From the list, select a community or conversation you have access to.

    To find a community name or conversation name, or person, use typehead.

  5. Enter a Title and Description for the publication.
  6. Optional: Select Display on What's New to post a media on the What's New page of the community.

    Note: This option is available only when you select Media to post.

  7. Optional: Under 3DXML file options, click to edit the default file name and click to confirm.
  8. Select the file permissions:
    • Share editable model - Shares the 3DXML file without restrictions allowing other users to edit the file.
    • Share view-only - Shares the 3DXML file as a read-only file that cannot be edited.
  9. Click Publish.

Share a 3DXML File to HomeByMe

When you share your 3DXML file to public 3DSwym communities dedicated to the Maker role, you can also share to HomeByMe.

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Share as 3D .
    The Share File dialog box opens.
  2. Select Community.
  3. Select the Media content type.
  4. Select a public Community that is dedicated to the Maker role.
  5. Enter a Title and Description for the publication.
  6. Optional: Clear the Display on "What's New" check box if you don't want the media to be displayed on the What's New page of 3DSwym.
  7. Under 3DXML file options, click to edit the default file name and click to confirm.
  8. Select the file permissions:
    • Share editable model - Shares the 3DXML file without restrictions allowing other users to edit the file.
    • Share view-only - Shares the 3DXML file as a read-only file that cannot be edited.
  9. Select the Publish to HomeByMe check box.
  10. From the Select category list, select a HomeByMe product category for the file.
  11. Click Publish.
    The HomeByMe login dialog opens.
  12. Enter your HomeByMe login information or sign up for an account.

Share a 3DXML File Using the Top Bar

Before you begin: Open a widget in the full screen mode.
  1. From the top bar, click Share > Share as 3D > Publish to Communities.
    The Share File dialog box opens.
  2. Select one of the following:
    • Community - Lists the communities that you are a member of.
    • Conversation - Lists the members in your community. You can only share as Media or Post
  3. Select one of the following content types:
    • Media - Files images, videos, audio files, 3D models, documents, and drawings that you can embed in Posts, Questions, Ideas, Wiki Pages, answers and comments. For more information, see 3D Modeling: 3DPlay for Dashboard: Sharing Content.
    • Post - A blog article that you can edit using the rich text editor.
    • Question - Ask questions to all members of given community and receive collaborative replies.
    • Question - Ask questions to all members of a community and receive replies.
    • Idea - A starting point to create and innovate by sharing knowledge with community members.
  4. Enter a Title and Description for the publication.
  5. Under 3DXML file options, click to edit the default file name and click to confirm.
  6. Select the file permissions:
    • Allow editing - Shares the 3DXML file without restrictions allowing other users to edit the file.
    • For review (read-only) - Shares the 3DXML file as a read-only file that cannot be edited.
  7. Click Publish.
