Using the Selection Helper

You can quickly select edges of similar characteristics for chamfer and corner operations using the Selection Helper. This helps in reducing time and missed selections during selection procedure.

The Selection Helper tool offers corner and chamfer suggestions based on the initial selection and any additional selections made. The model is analyzed to find similar edges on to which a corner or chamfer can be applied. The edges do not have to be an exact match but must be within a specified accuracy limit.


Before you begin: Create or import a model.
  1. From the Sheet Metal section of the action bar, click Chamfer or Corner.
  2. Click an edge of the model.
    The Selection Helper tool appears near the selected edge.
  3. Click the Selection Helper .
    A toolbar appears.

    Selection helper tool offers corner and chamfer suggestions based on the selected edge.

    The suggested edges are highlighted in yellow in the model.
  4. Optional: Click Settings to access similarity factors. Change the settings based on your needs.
    OptionDescription
    Same adjacent face angles Suggests edges formed between faces with similar angles between them. Toggle off to get suggestions on other angled geometry.
    Same orientation Suggest edges with same axial orientation.
    Relax adherence to factors

    The suggestion provided in this option considers a more relaxed range with respect to the other options, resulting in more suggestions that may be less similar to the original selection.

  5. Optional: Add or remove edges by clicking them in your geometry.

    Tip: With the Selection Helper active, you can select additional edges to get more results. The Selection Helper can again be used when editing a Corner or Chamfer and selecting additional edges.

    You can observe the following behavior:

    • Click the unsuggested edges not displayed in yellow, you can have additional suggested edges.
    • Click the suggested edge displayed in yellow, to remove only that edge from the suggested edges.
    • Click the selected edge to remove that edge and associated suggested edges. It is removed from the dialog box. Any other selected edge and its suggestions continue to display.
    • Click any geometry (other than an edge) to add that geometry to the dialog box.
    • Click a suggested edge from the dialog box to remove that edge.
  6. Click in the Selection Helper to accept the suggestions and close the Selection Helper.
    After you accept the edge suggestions, they are listed in the Corner or Chamfer dialog box.
    Note: You can select additional edges in the Corner or Chamfer dialog box and you can use the Selection Helper to obtain more suggestions based on the newly selected edges.
  7. Make any edits to the Corner or Chamfer dialog box and click for OK.
