Specifying Primitive Options

You can use a dialog box to specify 3D primitives options.

  1. From the Feature section of the action bar, click the 3D primitive flyout and select a primitive.
    OptionDescription
    Cube
    Cylinder
    Sphere
    Torus
  2. Click in the work area to place the primitive. You can place the primitive in an open location or on a body.
  3. From the context toolbar, click Expand to open the Primitive dialog box.

    Tip: In the Primitive type menu of the dialog box, you can switch between Cube , Cylinder , Sphere , and Torus primitives.

  4. Select the function to perform with the primitive.
    OptionDescription
    Add. Adds the primitive to the selected profile.
    Cut. Creates a primitive by subtracting one profile from another.
    New. Creates a primitive as a separate profile. When this option is selected, the Advance options are not available in the dialog box.
  5. Optional: Select Locate with midplane to extend the primitive equally in both directions from the plane or face surface.
  6. Optional: Click Use transform triad to display the Robot and position the primitive.
  7. Specify the primitive size by dragging the handle or enter Height, Width, Length, and Radius values.

    The size options listed depend on the selected primitive.

  8. Optional: To specify additional options, expand Advanced and select a Location entity to place the primitive on a face.
  9. Optional: Select a merge option:
    1. Click Auto Merge to merge the primitive with the selected face.
    2. If Auto Merge is not selected, select the bodies to merge with the primitive.
  10. Click any of the following:
    • Click Apply and Continue to apply the primitive and create another primitive.
    • Click to switch to the primitive context toolbar.
    • Click to apply the primitive and close the dialog box.
    • Click to cancel the placement of the primitive and close the dialog box.
