Unfolding Bends and Flanges

You can unfold bends. It also applies to cylindrical faces such as flange, bend, and surfaces recognized as bend.


Before you begin: Create a representation with two walls, a cylindrical bend and a wall on edge.
  1. From the Sheet Metal section of the action bar, click Unfolding .
  2. Select the fixed part of the body as the Reference face.
  3. Select the cylindrical bend to unfold in the Unfold face box.
  4. From the list, select the Angle type.
    1. Natural: When selected the angle specify to the default bend value.
    2. Defined: Edit the input bend angle with the up and down arrow.
    3. Spring back: The angle of the bend is based on the natural angle with additional degrees, to consider Spring back.
  5. To unfold another bend, click the Add and then repeat steps 3 and 4.
  6. Optional: To unfold all the bending surfaces, click Select all.

    To remove the selection, click Clear all.

  7. Click .
    Important:
    • To unfold a 3D shape with a bending cycle, each element of the cylindrical bend has to be selected individually.
    • The unfolded faces must be in the same domain.
    • You can unfold noncanonical faces such as a curved flange.
