Splitting Bodies or Faces

You can split a body or face into multiple parts using an intersecting solid, face, plane, surface spline, or projected sketch.

This task shows you how to:

Split Body

  1. From the Features section of the action bar, click Split .

    Tip: In the top menu of the dialog box, you can switch between Split Body and Split Face .

  2. In the Split Body dialog box, select one of the following splitting methods:
    OptionDescription
    Project. Splits the selected body with a projected sketch.
    Intersect. Splits the selected body using an intersecting splitting tool such as solid, face, plane, surface spline, or sketch.
  3. From the work area, select the bodies to split.

  4. From the work area, select the splitting tools such as a face, sketch, edge, or plane.
  5. When the Project splitting method is used, you have the following selections:
    1. Select the direction of the split by specifying an axis or edge.
    2. In Direction Type list, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
    Both Directions

    Projects the splitting tool in both directions.

    Single Direction

    Projects the splitting tool in one direction.

    To reverse the direction of the split, select Reverse Direction.

  6. To remove a splitting tool if it is a surface body, select Consume Surface Bodies.
  7. Click

Split Face

  1. From the Features section of the action bar, click Split .

    Tip: In the top menu of the dialog box, you can switch between Split Body and Split Face .

  2. In the Split Face dialog box, select one of the following splitting methods:
    OptionDescription
    Project. Splits the selected body with a projected sketch.
    Intersect. Splits the selected body using an intersecting splitting tool such as solid, face, plane, surface spline, or sketch.
    Silhouette. Creates a split line on a body along an axis.
  3. From the work area, select the faces to split.
  4. From the work area, select the splitting tools such as a face, sketch, edge, or plane.

    Note: This option is available only for Project and Intersect splitting methods.

  5. When the Project or Silhouette splitting method is used, you have the following selections:
    1. Select the direction of the split by specifying an axis or edge.
    2. When the Project splitting method is used, select a Direction Type:

    Projects the splitting tool in both directions.

    Single Direction

    Projects the splitting tool in one direction.

    To reverse the direction of the split, select Reverse Direction.

  6. To remove a splitting tool if it is a surface body, select Consume Surface Bodies.
