Mass Properties

You can calculate mass properties based on the product geometry and material properties.

Mass properties might include the following:

  • Area
  • Volume
  • Mass
  • Center of gravity
  • Moments of inertia
  • Principal moments of inertia
  • Principal axes of inertia

This task shows you how to:

View Mass Properties

You can view the calculated mass properties and filter the items for which mass properties are displayed.

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Mass Properties .
  2. In the Mass Properties dialog box, click from one of the following:
    OptionDescription
    Face

    Displays the properties of one or more faces of a body.

    Body

    Displays the properties of an entire body.

    Component

    Displays the properties of an entire body.

  3. In the work area, select the items depending on the option you select in the previous step.
    The Mass Properties dialog box displays all the associated properties of an items you select.
  4. Click to close the Mass Properties dialog box.

Change Units for Mass Properties

You can set your preference for displaying the units of measure in the Mass Properties dialog box.

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Mass Properties .
  2. Select your preference for displaying the units of measure in the Units section:
    OptionDescription
    Length From the Length menu, select one of the following.
    Millimeter
    Displays the length in millimeters.
    Inch
    Displays the length in inches.
    Mass From the Mass menu, select one of the following.
    Gram
    Displays weight in grams.
    Pound
    Displays weight in pounds.
