About Draft Analysis

A Draft Analysis is the process of analyzing an object in the work area to make sure that the molded parts are separable from the mold. It is also used to determine the possibility of molding the designed part at the required draft.

You can use the following features to perform Draft Analysis:

  • Enable/Disable Draft Analysis : to initiate the Draft Analysis tool.
  • Edit Draft Analysis : to edit Draft Analysis parameters.

In Draft Analysis, following terminologies are used:

Term Description
Draft An angle of a face of an object relative to a direction of pull of each side of the mold.
Direction of pull A direction of selected plane or face of an object in the work area.
Angle An angle between the face of an object and the direction of pull. The angle value ranges from 0 to 90 degrees.

The Draft Analysis result is calculated for each portion of an object with respect to its location from the direction of pull and the angle value. It is a colorful representation of all the faces of an object categorized in the following types:

Positive Draft The draft has same direction as the direction of pull, and is sufficient for molding.
Negative Draft The draft has opposite direction as the direction of pull, and also is sufficient for molding.
Needs Draft When the draft is not sufficient to determine the possibility of a part separation from the mold.
Note: To apply draft on these faces, increase the angle value or change the pull direction.

By default, Positive Draft, Negative Draft, and Needs Draft categories are indicated by green, red, and yellow respectively.

Note: You can customize the color for each result type.
