Making a Branch

This task shows you how to create a new branch for a module or DesignSync vault objects. When a project requires a new branch, a single person, typically a release engineer or project manager, creates a branch for all design objects at the same time. Users can then create a new work area for the new branch. The object version selected is used as the branch point version for make branch operations. For DSclipse, the branch point version is always the version of the selected objects or module loaded into the workspace.

Before you begin:
  • The DesignSync server must be running
  • You must have DesignSync objects populated in your workspace.
  1. Select the desired objects and choose DesignSync | Make Branch.
The Make Branch options dialog displays.
  2. Select the desired branch creation options and press Ok to create the branch.
The Make Branch command operates on the selected objects. The command output is stored in the DSclipse log file, and echoed to the console window.

A new branch is created on the server for the selected DesignSync objects.
