About Punch Contour

Below is some information on how a punch contour is created with Process Generator Wizard.

Using the Process Generator Wizard

When you create a punch tool by planning elements with Process Generator Wizard (For example when planning a stamped surface to one OP)

  • A default concept geometry is associated to the punch custom geometry Punch_Contour.
  • A convex polygon is created from the punch input geometries and direction: This is the first draft of a punch outline for the punch tool.
  • A die and blank holder tool is created.
  • A default blank holder surface is automatically associated to the blank holder tool geometry, with the following inputs:
    • The blank geometry from the process method plan.
    • The computed punch contour.
    • The offset attributes Tool_Binder_Milling_Offset and Tool_Binder_Drawbead_Offset from the blank holder tool.

The process is as follows:

  • Create a fill of the blank contour.
  • Project the punch contour on the fill.
  • Split the fill by the punch contour.
  • Create a first offset of the blank contour, using Tool_Binder_Drawbead_Offset.
  • Fill the gap between the second offset and the blank contour.
  • Join both fills.
The result is associated to the blank holder tool.
Note: If the computation fails, no geometry is associated.
