Installing Design with Altium Designer Client

You can install Design with Altium Designer client on-premises or on cloud using the procedures described in this topic.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Ensure that you have administrative privileges before installing the Design with Altium Designer client.
Important: When connecting to 3DEXPERIENCE for the first time using Altium Designer, you can start Design with Altium Designer by clicking the Altium Designer app icon from My 3D Modeling Apps in the West quadrant of the Compass in the 3DDashboard application. Altium Designer gets launched and Design with Altium Designer automatically connects to 3DEXPERIENCE.

For subsequent login, you can use one of the following methods:

  • Start Design with Altium Designer by clicking My 3D Modeling Apps > "Altium Designer" app icon.
  • In Altium Designer, click 3DEXPERIENCE > Connect, or any other task from the 3DEXPERIENCE menu.

On Premises Installation

You can install Design with Altium Designer on-premises using the following procedure.

  1. Run the setup.exe for Windows from the XCADDesignConnectors build package.
    The installation dialog box opens.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Click Browse to specify the installation path and click Next.

    By default, the path is <OSInstallDrive>\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B421xcadconnectors. You can change this default path.

  4. Select Integration Exchange Framework Client if not already installed. (Required to connect to 3DEXPERIENCE)
  5. Select UET - PLM collaboration Services for Altium Designer and click Next.
  6. Specify the Server-URL and Click Next.
  7. If you have only One supported Altium Designer version installed, the 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries get automatically installed. If more than one Altium Designer versions are installed, the UALCInstallerHelper dialog appears where you can choose Altium Designer version in which the 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries are to be installed.
  8. From the list, select Altium Designer version and click Install. Already installed 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries of other Altium Designer version get automatically uninstalled.
  9. Select Skip Installation to skip the 3DEXPERIENCE menu installation. You can install the 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries later. The UALCInstallerHelper in <OSInstallDrive>\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B421xcadconnectors\bin directory runs the 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries installation.

The Installation Complete dialog box appears once the installation process is complete. Click Close and restart the computer to complete the installation.

Note: While connecting to 3DEXPERIENCE for the first time using Altium Designer, start Altium Designer from the West quadrant of the Compass> My 3D Modeling Apps > Altium Designer.

On Cloud Installation

You can install Design with Altium Designer on the cloud using the following procedure.

  1. Log in to the dashboard application with the appropriate user.
  2. From the West quadrant of the Compass, select My 3D Modeling Apps > Altium Designer.

    When you do not have 3DEXPERIENCE launcher installed on your client computer, you may have to install compatible version of 3DEXPERIENCE launcher.

  3. Click Download 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher > Run > Next.
    You can browse and select the folder location to install the files.
  4. Click Install to install files in the selected folder.
  5. Click Finish to exit the setup wizard.
    This completes the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher installation. A Compass icon appears in the task bar with the tooltip as 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher.
  6. In My 3D Modeling Apps > Altium Designer click Install Now.
  7. In the 3DEXPERIENCE Installation dialog box, select Install All Roles Containing Altium Designer.
  8. Navigate to the dialog (Welcome to the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher dialog box) and click Continue.
  9. Complete the installation procedure by specifying installation directory path and click Continue.
  10. Click Install to finish installation or Cancel to stop the installation
  11. Click Close. Design with Altium Designer installation is complete.

Altium Designer opens and Design with Altium Designer gets automatically connected to the 3DEXPERIENCE server.

Notes:

If you have more than one Altium Designer versions installed, the 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries get integrated in the latest Altium Designer version. If the 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries have to be installed in other Altium Designer version, you can change the 3DEXPERIENCE menu entries installation by executing the UALCInstallerHelper in <OSInstallDrive>\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B421xcadconnectors\bin directory as described in on-premises installation.

While connecting to 3DEXPERIENCE for the first time using Altium Designer, start Altium Designer from the West quadrant of the Compass> My 3D Modeling Apps > Altium Designer.

Uninstall Design with Altium Designer

You can uninstall Design with Altium Designer using the following procedure.

  1. Exit Altium Designer tool.
  2. Select Design with Altium Designer icon in Notification Area, right-click > Select Exit.
    IEFClientWorkspaceService ("3DEXPERIENCE" icon in Notification Area), gets automatically terminated.
    Tip: In the Notification Area, both 3DEXPERIENCE icons, one for Design with Altium Designer and the other for IEFClientWorkspaceService, disappears.
  3. In Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select Dassault Systemes xCAD Connectors 3DEXPERIENCE R2019x .
  4. Click Uninstall/Change.
    A warning appears to confirm the uninstallation. Click Yes. An Information dialog box appears, informing to restart the computer after uninstallation. Click OK.

Design with Altium Designer is uninstalled from your computer.
