Using Classification in Electronic Component Editor

You can use libraries in the Electronic Component Editor to classify components.

Assign Classification

  1. In the Electronic Component Editor, open a component in the editor.
  2. In the editor dialog box, in the Classification field, click .
  3. In the Class Selection dialog box, the active library and classes are listed. Select the required class and click OK.

    Notes:
    • For classes that are newly assigned, reassigned, or automatically assigned on import, the IP classes attribute values are prefilled from the components parameters.
    • Inactive classes are displayed in the Class Selection dialog box only if you own the class.

  4. Click the Taxonomy tab to view the attributes of the selected class.

    Note: If the component and the selected class have an attribute with the same name, the attribute of the component is removed when the component is saved to 3DEXPERIENCE.

    Once the component is saved to 3DEXPERIENCE, the complete path of the selected class is displayed in the Classification field. After saving to 3DEXPERIENCE, you cannot change the selected class for the component from the Electronic Component Editor.

    In Altium Designer, you can search and place a component in an open schematic from 3DEXPERIENCE. If a class is already assigned to the component, you can change the value of the assigned class if the Administrator or the Librarian role is assigned to you.

Notes:
  • Only general libraries and general classes are supported in IP Classification.
  • Only string attributes are supported in IP Classification (Is Multivalue? is not supported for string attributes.)
  • Multi-classification through the EPC Editor is not supported.
  • All classifications of components from the configured library through an app in 3DEXPERIENCE are also used and displayed in the Electronic Component Editor dialog box.
  • Classified components through 3DEXPERIENCE or with Electronic Component Editor in Altium Designer are used in placing an EPC to a schematic or updating through 3DEXPERIENCE Item Manager in Altium Designer.

Clear Class Assignment

You can remove a current class assigned to a component and empties the Taxonomy table.

Before you begin:
  • This option is available only if a class is already assigned to the component.
  • The components state is NEW.
  1. In the Electronic Component Editor dialog box, in the Classification area, select a class in the Taxonomy tab.
  2. Click .

The class assignment is cleared and the Taxonomy table is emptied.

All matching parameters with supported attributes are reset, made editable, cleared of strike-throughs, and are not deleted on save. All matching parameters with unsupported attributes are reset and cleared of highlights.

Transfer Values to Matching Classification Attributes

You can transfer values for parameter entries that have a matching classification attribute.

Before you begin: The is active only if at least one selected parameter entry has a matching classification attribute with a valid matching value. The value of the matching classification attribute differs from the current matching classification attribute value.
  1. In the parameters tab, select one or more entries.
  2. Click Transfer attributes .
    Values of the selected parameter entries are copied to their matching classification attributes with a valid value, but with a value different from the current classification attribute value.

    In the Parameters tab, the copied parameter entries are displayed with a strike-through and the component is in the modified state.
