Measuring Inertia in the Context of a Product

You can measure inertia in the context of a product and see how assembly configurations like product position, orientation ans show/hide status affect the computed inertia.

Before you begin: Open a validation with a context containing an assembly product and be sure that nothing is selected in the tree or the 3D area.
  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Measure Inertia .
    • The Measure Inertia dialog box appears.
    • The Measure Item cursor replaces the default cursor when hovering the mouse over a measurable item.
  2. Click the root product.

    Important:
    • An inertia axis system is displayed:
      • The first moment marked M1 is identified with a red axis.
      • The first moment marked M2 is identified with a green axis.
      • The first moment marked M3 is identified with a blue axis.

The inertia axis center is the center of gravity of the selected element.

    • A bounding box is displayed around the selected element parallel to axes.
    • Clicking the Create Geometry button, displays the Geometry Creation dialog box.

In this dialog box you can choose to create a new 3D Shape or reuse an existing one, and where an axis system and a point corresponding to the current inertia axis system will be created.

The point will be created within a Geometrical Set of the 3D Shape.

The Result tab content is updated.

  3. Move the small gear.
  4. Click the root product again.
    The bounding box is updated.

  5. Hide the small gear.
  6. Click the root product again.

  7. Click the big gear product.

  8. Click OK in the Measure Inertia dialog box.
