Creating Picture Markers

You can annotate your documents by adding picture markers.

The following file formats are supported: .tiff, .tif, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .png.

Create a Marker using Drag and Drop

You can create a picture marker by dragging and dropping an image from your local computer. You can also create picture documents by dragging and dropping picture documents from 3DSearch, bookmarks, or library browser. You can drop documents stored in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The images dropped from the local file system create picture markers. The images are embedded inside the picture marker.

To create a picture marker, do either of the following:
  • Drag the image files from your local computer, and drop them in the 3D area.
    Note: The image is always stored in the marker feature irrespective of the document management preference.
  • Drag the picture documents from 3DSearch, bookmarks, or library browser and drop them in the 3D area.
  • If you drop the images on an object in the 3D area, the markers are linked to the object.
  • The markers are created with their leaders pointing the drop location.
  • One picture marker is created for every picture file.

Note: You can create 2D picture markers by pressing Shift while dropping the picture documents.

Create a Marker Using the Picture Command

  1. From the Review section of the action bar, click Picture .
    The 3DSearch panel lists all the documents containing the .tiff, .tif, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .png files available on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
  2. Search your image document and select it for the marker creation.

    You can also select the document from the Bookmark app.

  3. In the 3D area, specify the position of the marker using any of the following methods:
    • Select an object. The marker is linked to the object.

      You can select multiple objects before clicking the command to link the marker to all the preselected objects. The marker is created with multiple leaders.

    • Click in the 3D area.
    • Click and drag to specify the leader start point and the marker's upper-left corner.

Create a Marker Using an Image from the Clipboard

You can create a picture marker using an image from the clipboard.

Before you begin: Copy an image.
  1. Do any of the following:
    • From the action bar, click Paste from Clipboard .
      Note: This command is not available on the action bar by default. You can customize the action bar and add this command to a section using Me > Preferences > Customize. For more information, see Manage User-Defined Sections from the Customize Dialog Box.
    • Right-click the active markup and select Paste from Clipboard .
  2. In the 3D area, specify the position of the marker using any of the following methods:
    • Select an object. The marker is linked to the object.
    • Click in the 3D area.
    • Click and drag to specify the leader start point and the marker's upper-left corner.

Modify a Picture Marker

You can modify the shape, size, position, graphic properties, leader, etc. of a picture marker.

  1. To link the marker to a new object,
    1. Right-click the marker and select Add Leader.
    2. Select the object in the 3D area.
  2. To remove the link with an object, right-click the extremity handle of the leader and select Remove Leader.
  3. To modify the leader position, drag the extremity and break-point handles to position the leader as required.
  4. To modify the size and shape of the picture marker, drag the control points available on it.

Notes:
  • The markers linked to an unloaded object are not displayed in the 3D area. However, these markers are displayed in the tree with the mask.
  • When you select a marker, its linked objects are highlighted in the 3D area and in the tree.
  • You can associate text, label, picture, and stamp markers with zooming, so that whenever you zoom in or zoom out, the markers are also zoomed in or zoomed out accordingly. To associate a marker with zooming, select the Zoomable check box in the Properties dialog box of the marker.
  • When you switch a geometry to which a marker is linked to no-show space, the marker is not displayed. (Note: In the tree, you must select the Product and not the 3D Shape.) When the marker is set to no-show, switching the linked geometry to show state will not alter the no-show state of the marker.

    When the linked geometry is not loaded in the session, the marker is not displayed.

  • SVG format is not supported for picture marker.
