Managing Replace Options

When replacing an object, links are automatically reconnected when possible. But depending on the context, some options can be proposed, to let you manage the context of the replaced object.

In the scenarios below, the Replace by Existing command is used, but the Replace Options and Analyze Impacts Relations dialog boxes are displayed with all the following commands:

  • Replace by Existing
  • Replace by Revision
  • Replace Items by Latest Revision
  • Overload Minor Revision

Important: By default the replace operation does not change the instance name.
Note: The Replace commands perform two actions: deletion of the selected object, and insertion of an object.

This task shows you how to:

Replace a Modified Object in a New Tab

If you replace an object that has been modified but not saved, the Replace Options dialog box warns you and proposes to open this object in a new tab.

Before you begin: Modify an object. Do not save.
  1. From the Product Modification section of the action bar, click Replace by Existing .

The Replace options dialog box appears to provide information and an option.
    • Warning: a message informs you that the object to be replaced is not saved and that your modification will be lost.
    • Edit modified selected element in a new editor: select this option to open the selected element in a new tab. This prevents from losing your modification in the current tab.

By default, this option is not selected.

  2. Select the Edit modified selected element in a new editor check box.
  3. Click OK.

The Content Chooser appears and lets you:

    • Select an object in the tree or in the work area. A Filter symbol appears under your pointer during selection.
    • Search for an object in the database. For more information, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide.

  4. Select the second object that must replace the first selected object.
A new tab opens and displays the structure with the modified object. You can thus save the modification.

Replace All Instances of an Object

For a selected object, you can replace all its instances or only the selected instance.

Before you begin: In an assembly, insert several instances of a product.
  1. Select an instance.
  2. From the Product Modification section of the action bar, click Replace by Existing .

The Replace options dialog box appears and provides the following option:

Replace all the instances of the selected element

By default, this option is not selected.

  3. Select the Replace all the instances of the selected element check box.

The Content Chooser appears and lets you:

    • Select an object in the tree or in the work area. A Filter symbol appears under your pointer during selection.
    • Search for an object in the database. For more information, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide.

  4. Select a second object to replace the multiple instances.
All the instances of the product are replaced.

Replace Non-Editable or Locked Objects

A wizard lets you analyze and manage the objects that are not replaceable.

Before you begin: Open an assembly with noneditable and locked objects.
  1. Select an instance.
  2. From the Product Modification section of the action bar, click Replace by Existing .

The Analyze Impacts Relations dialog box appears.

The instances that cannot be replaced are listed:

    • Their status in the Replaceable column is red.
    • If the object is locked by another user, the Locked column indicates the name of the locker.
    • If the object is not editable, the Editable column indicates No.

Tip: Select the Show all instances check box to display all the instances impacted by the replace.

For these instances, the status in the Replaceable column is green.

By default, this option is not selected.

  3. To switch to the edit mode for an object (provided that it is not locked), click No in the Editable column.
The Editable column is switched to Yes and the status in the Replaceable column is green.
  4. To switch to the edit mode for all objects (provided that they are not locked), click Make All Editable.
The Editable columns of the corresponding objects are switched to Yes and their status in the Replaceable column is green.

The locked objects are not modified.

  5. Click Continue.

The Content Chooser appears and lets you:

    • Select an object in the tree or in the work area. A Filter symbol appears under your pointer during selection.
    • Search for an object in the database. For more information, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide.

  6. Select a second object to replace the instances.

Important: If some instances are not replaceable (either locked or not switched to the edit mode), a message appears to list them and ask for a confirmation.

All the editable instances of the product are replaced.

Tip: If you need to edit the locked object, you must contact the user who has locked them and ask for an unlock. Then cancel and repeat the replace operation.
