Inserting a Duplicate of an Existing Representation

In a product or 3D part, you can insert a copy of an existing representation. These commands create both an instance and a duplicated reference. The reusable or nonreusable status of the representation is also duplicated.

These commands are available for drawing, markup, and 3D shape representations. More precisely, you can insert:

  • In a product: the duplicate of a drawing, markup, 3D Shape
  • In a part: the duplicate of a drawing, markup.

Before you begin: By default, this command is not displayed. To display this command, select the Insert Duplication of Existing Product option in Me > Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Architecture > Product Structure Design.
  1. Select a root product or 3D part.

Tip: You can also multiselect objects to apply these commands to this selection.

  2. From the Product Modification section of the action bar, select one of the following commands:
    • Duplicate and Insert Existing Representation : To duplicate a representation (drawing, 3D Shape) and aggregate it to the selected product or 3D part. The duplicated representation is created in session.
    • Duplicate and Insert as Reusable Representation : To duplicate the reference and create a reusable instance in session.

    Important:
    • This command is available on nonreusable representations only.
    • This command does not duplicate a representation if it is already in the target 3D part.
    • Reference-reference links are rerouted. To manually reconnect other links, use Links and Relations . See About Reconnecting Mechanism.

Note that before a manual reconnection, you must first close both duplicated and source data, and then reopen the duplicated data. The reason is that if the source and duplicated data are both loaded, Edit Links and Relations considers the links of the source representation and does not detect any broken link.

Note: These commands are also available from the context menu.

The Content Chooser appears and lets you:

    • Select an object in the tree or in the work area. A Filter symbol appears under your pointer during selection.
    • Search for an object in the database. For more information, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide.

  3. Select the object to be duplicated in the tree, in the 3D area, or in the Search Results panel.
A duplicate of the selected object is inserted under the product or 3D part.
