Replacing Used Components

You can replace all the instances of a selected component by another component. The replaced component can be a product, a part or a representation object.

  1. From the top bar, type the search criteria then click Search .
The Search Results panel appears and displays the products corresponding to your search criteria.
  2. Right-click a component and select Explore With... > Explore Parents.
The Explore Parents dialog box appears.
Note: The Explore Parent command is documented in Product Finder User's Guide: Exploring Parents from the Search results.
  3. Right-click the parent reference and select Replace Where Used.
The Replace Component dialog box is displayed.
  4. Perform a search and select a replacing component.

If the reference is configured, you have to select an effectivity before performing the replace action. A single selected effectivity should be valid for all instances. If different effectivites have to be selected, the replace action should be performed on the selected instances for which the same effectivity should be applied.

  5. Click OK.
The replace action is performed for the selected references. A Replace report window is displayed with the replace results including the replaces failure instances.
Warning: The instance name (displayed in the Properties dialog box) is not updated. The previous instance name is kept.
Warning: If the Explore Parents action is launched with multiselection you will get an invalid root object element. If you then select a parent and initiate the Replace action an error message will indicate that this is not allowed.
